Some time ago I put this tweet out into the world:

Wouldn’t have guessed our post apocalyptic societal factions would map exactly to former hosts of The Man Show but here we are.

It was seen by dozens of people. This isn’t a good tweet. It isn’t particularly funny or insightful if you don’t have an active memory of a very dumb show that last aired in 2004. What was The Man Show? It doesn't really matter. Just know that the Wikipedia entry include a section called “Notable Juggy Girls” along with a list of skits that Jimmy Kimmel later…

I don’t work in Venture Capital but I’ve always been intrigued by the culture, the push for innovation, and the complicated methodologies behind discovering and funding successful start-ups. However, there’s also a dark side to this industry where the stakes are so high. I was recently sent this personal email exchange from someone who’s “in the biz” and received permission to share it. All the identifying personal information has been removed and you should know that the person who sent this hopes that it will give people a better insight into this small, but incredibly influential industry.

Like many of us I’m annoyed by the media. The publications I follow seem to focus on the wrong story, elevate the banal, or fall for obvious traps set by trolls. The primary focus of my ire is the New York Times, a paper that I subscribe to and have read my entire life. While I have a deep appreciation for their journalism, in many ways they also remain rooted in the past, unable to pivot or adequately transform after a massive failure in reporting the 2016 elections. Nowhere is their crusty “bothsidesism[E1] ” more infuriating than on the Opinion…

I love award season. I close out every year cataloging my favorite films, books, or video games and then see how they compare against the lists and accolades churned out by every site, critic, and guild. It’s a fun little game to pretend that I’ll catch up on everything I missed even as I spend my free time over the holidays watching whatever atrocity Netflix has foisted upon the tired and drunk masses who just need a minute away from their family. …

On a recent sleepy Monday morning I started my day as I did every morning about a decade ago: by watching the launch trailer for Mass Effect 2. Arguably one of the best role playing games ever made, the trailer is narrated by Martin Sheen and set to Heart of Courage, a go-to track in Hollywood for evoking emotional build-up. Obviously I’m a huge nerd, but I’m also a sucker for basic, inspirational, pump-up music and videos. I’m the kind of person that would have purchased Jock Jams. Those movie montages that they play at sporting events when the game…

Like many of my friends I’m constantly annoyed with the media. They seem to focus on the wrong story, elevate the banal, or fall for obvious traps set for them by dishonest trolls. The primary focus of my ire is the New York Times, a paper that I subscribe to and have read my entire life. While I have a deep appreciation for their excellent and crucial journalism, in many ways they also remain rooted in the past, unable to pivot or adequately transform after a massive failure in reporting the 2016 elections. …
